Hi all! So my batik fabric hunting in Kelantan did not stop with Kartika Kiara Batik. After that, we went to Wisma Songket Hjh Cik Bidah bt Cik Yin (Cik Bidah for short)…. which turned out to be my favourite of all!

They have a lot of block-printed batik fabrics. Well actually, when I think carefully about it, I would say all of the batik fabrics in the shop are block-printed. I found some hand-painted fabrics, but those are already made into finished products.

After our trip to Nordin Batik, we went to another batik shop, Kartika Kiara Batik. It’s along Jalan Pantai Cahaya Bulan so if you plan to go to Pantai Cahaya Bulan beach, you can drop by at this shop.

The shop has a lot of batik fabrics: hand-painted crepe silks, hand-painted cottons, hand-painted jacquards, and if I recall correctly, they also have block-printed batik fabrics. They also have a lot of ready-made garments: shirts, baju kurung, jubah.

Yoko Saito pouch finished!

Remember my last pouch project? I finally finished it last weekend. The pattern called for a zipper, but it was a pain to work with a zipper with such a small pouch + the techniques showed in the book required zipper tools, which I don’t have. So I improvised by making a button pouch instead. This was going to be the house for my laptop mouse so having a button closure would not be a major problem.

Yoko Saito’s pouch

Hi everyone! So I take a break from sewing clothes to making a patchwork quilted pouch for no reason. Well, maybe there’s one reason: I just realised how many sakizome (yarn-dyed) fabrics I have kept for years… I bought them back in the UK when I was studying there for my degree. Since I bought them for Yoko Saito projects, I felt that now was a good time to revisit these projects and get done with at least one of them.

For the Chinese New Year break, I came back to my family’s village in Kelantan with one important mission in mind: I wanted to explore batik shops there 😛 . I don’t know why, but I never knew about the existence of batik manufacturers in Kelantan before hahaha. Previously, I often thought of batik arts as being a specialty of Terengganu (another state in Malaysia). It was through one of my Instagram searches that I found out about batiks in Kelantan.

I copy my favourite blouse

About two years ago, I bought two cotton blend blouses which are exactly the same except for the colour. One is olive green and the other is dark green pastel. Once, I wore them consequently and my friend thought that I did not wash my blouse hahaha. Of all my blouses, they are the ones that I wore the most. Since I love them so much, I have decided to copy the pattern and made myself a new blouse.

Fabric shopping in People Textile, Petaling Street, KL

So from my previous post, I did mentioned about my trip to Fah Num. Right after Fah Num, I went to People Textile, which is just across the street. I have a feeling that this shop has been here for ages, considering how old the building is. The first interesting thing that I noticed: you cannot simply enter the shop… you need to press the bell first and wait for them to open the door for you.

Hi guys! Today I went to two fabric stores in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and I feel like writing about them here on the blog. Since last year actually I have this idea of blogging about where to buy fabrics and craft supplies during my travels: be them here in my beloved country Malaysia, or in any other countries for that matter. I am reminded by how thankful I am to a lot of bloggers and their posts which helped me to decide where to go in Japan back in August, and informed me a lot of important tips that I wouldn’t get elsewhere. So I figure out that I need to do the same!

Loose two-piece batik outfits

I finished making this beautiful two-piece outfits last Friday. This was made using one of the sewing patterns I bought during my honeymoon trip in Japan back in August. I bought the pattern from Nomura Tailor Shop in Kyoto. At that time, I didn’t know what kind of pattern it was as I bought it purely because I was attracted with the design at the cover. Now I regretted not buying more, after I realised how easy it is to use the pattern: they already cut each pattern piece for you! Further research led me to handmadecompany.jp, the company which sells these gorgeous ready-cut patterns. Sadly, I don’t think they do international shipping though.
