Hi everyone! So I take a break from sewing clothes to making a patchwork quilted pouch for no reason. Well, maybe there’s one reason: I just realised how many sakizome (yarn-dyed) fabrics I have kept for years… I bought them back in the UK when I was studying there for my degree. Since I bought them for Yoko Saito projects, I felt that now was a good time to revisit these projects and get done with at least one of them.

For the Chinese New Year break, I came back to my family’s village in Kelantan with one important mission in mind: I wanted to explore batik shops there 😛 . I don’t know why, but I never knew about the existence of batik manufacturers in Kelantan before hahaha. Previously, I often thought of batik arts as being a specialty of Terengganu (another state in Malaysia). It was through one of my Instagram searches that I found out about batiks in Kelantan.

About two years ago, I bought two cotton blend blouses which are exactly the same except for the colour. One is olive green and the other is dark green pastel. Once, I wore them consequently and my friend thought that I did not wash my blouse hahaha. Of all my blouses, they are the ones that I wore the most. Since I love them so much, I have decided to copy the pattern and made myself a new blouse.

So from my previous post, I did mentioned about my trip to Fah Num. Right after Fah Num, I went to People Textile, which is just across the street. I have a feeling that this shop has been here for ages, considering how old the building is. The first interesting thing that I noticed: you cannot simply enter the shop… you need to press the bell first and wait for them to open the door for you.

Hi guys! Today I went to two fabric stores in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and I feel like writing about them here on the blog. Since last year actually I have this idea of blogging about where to buy fabrics and craft supplies during my travels: be them here in my beloved country Malaysia, or in any other countries for that matter. I am reminded by how thankful I am to a lot of bloggers and their posts which helped me to decide where to go in Japan back in August, and informed me a lot of important tips that I wouldn’t get elsewhere. So I figure out that I need to do the same!

Back in August, my husband and I went to Japan for our honeymoon trip. Obviously I went there with a long list of fabric/craft shops that I wanted to go… and Nomura Tailor Shop was one of the I-must-go-or-I’ll-die shops in my list.

I finished making this beautiful two-piece outfits last Friday. This was made using one of the sewing patterns I bought during my honeymoon trip in Japan back in August. I bought the pattern from Nomura Tailor Shop in Kyoto. At that time, I didn’t know what kind of pattern it was as I bought it purely because I was attracted with the design at the cover. Now I regretted not buying more, after I realised how easy it is to use the pattern: they already cut each pattern piece for you! Further research led me to handmadecompany.jp, the company which sells these gorgeous ready-cut patterns. Sadly, I don’t think they do international shipping though.

This is a throwback to the gorgeous wedding kebaya I made for my wedding back in August 2019. I posted more photos on the making of this kebaya on my IG, so check out @needle_of_supai if you want to see more progress photos.
Before our wedding, Siddiq (now my husband) and I decided that for my side’s wedding* we were going for light gold attire. We listed down so many possible combinations: a dress for me and a suit for him, a kebaya for me and a suit for him, a dress for me and traditional baju Melayu for him, a kebaya for me and a traditional baju Melayu for him, and so on. Finally we agreed on one thing: we are going traditional with a kebaya and baju Melayu.

Hi all, my name is Syifa’ and I am from Malaysia. I actually don’t know what to write since I am not a good writer myself.
I just want to say welcome to you all to my blog. Here, I will be sharing the fun things I make and do. Fun things differ for everyone, but in my life, fun things are related to sewing, calligraphy, tatting, crocheting, knitting, and cross-stitching, to name a few.
On all occasions when you feel that my blog is dying, feel free to visit my Instagram page @needle_of_supai. I will likely be more active there than here hahaha.
Welcome everyone!
